What is Aternum?​

Aternum is the capital city of the Blacksky Imperium and the seat from which its institutions, traditions, and authority endure.

The name Aternum originates from the concept of eternity. Within the Imperium, it is often interpreted as "The Eternal City" — a reflection of the belief that while generations may come and go, the foundations of Blacksky endure.

Aternum was not built in a single age. It was shaped over many generations of growth, expansion, hardship, and renewal. Beneath its streets lie the oldest foundations of the Imperium, including the Hall of Dread, the Chamber of Emergence, the Blackguard Sanctum, and the ancient archives where the earliest records of Blacksky were preserved.

Above those foundations rose the city itself.

Its districts expanded outward from the Imperial Core. Its roads connected distant territories to the capital. Its institutions grew alongside the Imperium they served. The Senate Chambers, the Colosseum, the Leadership Academy, Operations Command, and countless other halls of service all trace their origins back to Aternum.

Throughout its history, the city has endured triumph and tragedy alike. It witnessed the rise of the first Chapters, the expansion of the Imperium, the formation of Legions, the fall of Romulus, the loss of Bloodlust X, and the long years that followed.

Yet Aternum never fell.

Its walls weathered.

Its monuments aged.

Its roads grew quiet.

But the city endured.

Today, Aternum stands as both the heart of the Imperium and the living record of its history. Every district, hall, archive, and monument reflects a chapter in the story of Blacksky itself.

To walk the streets of Aternum is to walk through the history of the Imperium.

It is not merely the capital of Blacksky.

It is its memory.
